Bird Walk – Refresh and learn about our birds.
Dates for 2023 TBC Spring onward
Birdsong is one of nature’s most beautiful sounds and it is made more enjoyable by becoming more aware some of our songsters. Join to a bird walk to find out how to start or to improve this understanding and enjoyment as we delve into the world they inhabit.
Birds are a wonderful way into nature. They show us a world of interest and by learning to read their clues we can see more of the intricacies of natural events.
Taking time to get to know these beautiful creatures increases our enjoyment, understanding and care for them.
On these 3 hour bird walks we share what we already know and talk about the birds that feature in our day and what we notice about them. We will see and hear birds typical of open farmland, hedgerows and those associated with human settlement, learning their habits, how to tell them apart and key the aspects to recognising them.
The walk will be approximately 3 miles long and will include rough ground and some short steep sections.
The approach
The approach I take allows for people to learn in whatever way naturally suits them best. Rather than being an exercise in remembering a long list of names and concepts, the training allows people to embed and assimilate knowledge according to their own relationship with nature. In other words the learning comes from the experience – that of the day and that which they already hold, and we all hold more understanding of the natural world than we may think. What is really important is our personal relationship with it, and that we are each our own experts when it comes to what what we love, what inspires and what moves us.
Where?
meeting at Swineford Picnic Area, Swineford (between Bristol and Bath). The number 19 bus stops very close and it is not far from the Bristol Bath cycle track.
Costs
There are three cost options, Standard, Reduced and Low Cost. Why? This introduces a chance for us to approach money in a slightly different way, relying on trust and fairness, and can set the cost in line with financial capacities.
If you can afford it please pay the Standard Cost. If you cannot afford this then there is the Reduced Cost or Low Cost Options. It is for you to decide, trusting you value the benefits of what is offered.
Standard cost is £15, Reduced is £10 and Low is £7
